Teach India initiative from Times of India seeks to harness personal goodwill for the public good. The Times of India Tech India outreach programme’s 2008 edition that asked people to volunteer to teach underprivileged was an immediate success.

Note these statistics

  • India has 287 million illiterate people
  • Out of every 10 children who go to school, only one makes it to college
  • Ninety per cent drop out for social and economic reasons
  • 90,000 Indians stepped up to teach in Tech India 2008
  • Tech India 2008 volunteers included senior corporate executives, college students, doctors, housewives, businessmen and grandmothers

Teach India is inviting volunteers who can give two hours of teaching time per week for at least three months.
