• Heavier rainfall in South America
• Increased extremes in Britain, of warm and cold
• May be second-strongest El Nino after 1998
• Its potential for economic and social impact is considerable

It may be recalled that in 1997-98 El Nino combined with global warming made 1998 into being the world’s hottest year. This has caused major droughts and catastrophic forest fires in South-east Asia.

The World Environment Day is commemorated every year on 5 June in order to stimulate worldwide awareness of environmental protection. The theme for the World Environment Day 2009 is ‘Your Planet Needs You – UNite to combat climate change’. This year’s theme tells us that we all must do our part to protect the planet by ‘using less’ and ‘acting more’. At the international level, it reflects the urgency for all nations to agree on a new deal at the United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held on 7-18 December 2009 in Copenhagen.

Observing World Environment Day (WED) 2009 with schools TERI has a tradition of celebrating the WED each year. This year, TERI, in association with Hewlett Packard plans to commemorate the day by organizing an ‘Environment Fair’ (sutrupurasuzhal vizha) in Chennai and Bangalore. This will include an ‘On the spot painting competition’ and ‘Quiz’ for the students. Several leading agencies will participate in the fair and educate the students on issues related to e-waste management, rain water harvesting systems, renewable energy devices, biodegradable wastes, recycle and reuse processes, and so on. Schools will also be provided space to display eco-friendly articles made by students.

WED 2009’s host is Mexico which reflects the growing role of the Latin American country in the fight against climate change, including its growing participation in the carbon markets.

World Environment Day (WED) was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972. Since then WED is hosted every year by a different city and commemorated with an international exposition through the week of June 5.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), also created in 1972, uses WED to stimulate awareness of the environment and enhance political attention and public action.

Web.Bot predictions are said to be in line with previous predictions made by ancient “seers” and civilizations, caught public eyes quickly. Also unlike older methods of predictions, web.bot predictions are said to be based on search engine algorithms combined with natural language processing which makes it attractive for scientific brain.

Web.bot project claims to predict Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy, 9/11 attacks, present ecomomic crisis and many many more such events in advance.

How Web.Bot predictions work

The web bot technology uses a system of spiders to crawl the Internet and search for keywords, much like a search engines like Google. In a simple language, crawling means going to a list of web locations in an automatated fashion by a software program. When a keyword is located, the bot program takes a snapshot of the text preceding and following the keyword. Though unlike search engine, this snapshot of text is sent to a central location and processed using some astrology-like algorithm known to the developers of web.bot project only. Based on the limited information available on Internet, the algorithm uses theories similar to I Ching (Chinese Astrology) combined with the physics theory of time. The idea is to tap into the “collective unconscious” of the universe by the use of Internet and using it for predictions. The web bot technology apparently taps in to an area of preconscious awareness.

Is the world really going to end on December 21 2012? That is perhaps the most frequently asked question I receive from visitors to my website www.December212012.com. The short answer is most likely no. We as human beings have no possible way of knowing when and how our planet will end.

As the days continue to countdown to Dec. 21 2012, we will begin to experience a number of natural disasters and unprecedented weather events such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, tsunamis, floods, droughts and many other extraordinary life threatening natural events. Although our planet has always experienced nature’s destructive wrath in one form or another, these disasters will become increasingly more frequent and significantly more intense then any we have ever experienced. Along with the increased property damage and economic losses associated with these disasters, the lose of human life will increase exponentially. As these extreme weather events continue to develop, they will help to significantly increase global famine, disease, pandemics and many other forms of human suffering. Massive floods will devastate, extreme heat will decimate and intense fires will incinerate the very ground on which we stand. Tornadoes will strike in uncommon places and at uncommon times of the year. Severe thunderstorms with intense lighting and uncommonly strong winds will become more prevalent, and the earth will rumble with unusual and unidentifiable sounds of stress.

In addition to natural disasters, mankind itself will initiate its own near destruction through the use of social, economic, chemical, biological and nuclear warfare.

Some scholars have estimated that as many as two thirds of the worlds population may perish as a direct or indirect result of the coming events of December 21 2012 and the thirteen-year tribulation leading up to that date.

Our world and its population will not come to a complete and final end on December 21 2012. We will however be forced to reevaluate and redefine our lives and our association with our planet. Life will be hard but we can take comfort in knowing that Mother Nature will once again reign supreme in her ability to correct what we have so badly taken for granted.

Those participating in the Earth Hour will Saturday switch off lights in their homes, offices and business establishments at 8.30 pm, for exactly 60 minutes.

In India Bangalore has already indicated that they will be participating in Earth Hour. What need to be seen how many cities will participate.

However at an individual level – we must voluntarlily swich off the lights and observe the Earth Hour. People are encouraged to share their ideas and vote on the websites of Earth Hour. In India many celebrities including Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Sachin Tendulkar have endorsed the Earth Hour.

• The water which is supposed to be clean (as per environment norms) was a floating soup of 21 different active pharmaceutical ingredients, used in generics for treatment of hypertension, heart disease, chronic liver ailments, depression, gonorrhea, ulcers and other ailments.
• This is the highest levels of pharmaceuticals ever detected in the environment (well we have achieved highest level at least in something)
• The poor people in the vicinity are unknowingly consuming the chemicals that may be harmful, and could lead to the proliferation of drug-resistant bacteria

These factories, located at Patancheru on NH-9, just 28km from Hyderabad, produce drugs for much of the world. Patancheru became a hub for largely unregulated chemical and drug factories in the 1980s, creating what is described locally as an “ecological sacrifice zone” with its pharmaceutical waste. Since then, India has become one of the world’s leading exporters of pharmaceuticals, and the US which spent $1.4 billion on Indian-made drugs in 2007, is its largest customer.
