Veteran Gandhian Anna Hazare Started day-long fast at Rajghat

Veteran Gandhian Anna Hazare started day-long fast at Rajghat to protest the crackdown on yoga guru Baba Ramdev today on June 8th, 2011 (Wednesday). Thousands of supporters gathered near Rajghat in the Delhi capital today morning in support of Anna Hazare, Baba Ramdev to participate in day-long fast against corruption.

Civil society members Swami Agnivesh, Arvind Kejriwal, Kiran Bedi were also participating with Veteran Gandhian Anna Hazare for day-long fast at Rajghat.Delhi police have made elaborate security arrangements to ensure that the day-long protest passes off peacefully.

According to sources, Anna Hazare supporters had started gathering at Rajghat since morning as youths wearing Gandhi caps and elderly people were seen at the spot waving the tricolour amidst a heavy posse of security personnel. A man dressed like Mahatma Gandhi was the centre of attraction as he sang Gandhi’s favourite bhajan ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’.

In April 2011, Hazare’s five-day fast drew widespread support across the country and forced the government to set up a Lokpal Bill drafting panel to combat corruption in high places. With slogans like “This is the second war of Independence”, people started coming to the place as early as 7 a.m. although the fast was not to begin before 10 a.m. There was also high police presence at Rajghat. Veteran Gandhian Anna Hazare started day-long fast will ends at 6 p.m.
