Yoga guru Baba Ramdev today on May 31, 2011 (Tuesday) said to reporters that he would go on his fast against corruption from June 4 despite the Centre’s efforts to pacify him over his demand for action on black money. Yoga guru Baba Ramdev also concluded that his fast will not end until the government meet the demanda presented by him.
Baba Ramdev, who contributed support to Anna Hazare in his campaign of Lokpal against corruption when he went on a fast in Jantar Mantar, however, refused to call off his own fast from June 4 till government met all his demands by saying that he doesn’t want any publicity in the civil society .
By this issue of Baba Ramdev to fast from June 4 against corruption on black money government has stepped down and has ordered to Directorate of Criminal Investigation dealing with direct tax law under the Central Board of Direct Taxes to proceed further as it is the 3rd time reacting to this issue, which on Friday announced a high level panel to tackle generation of black money and on Sunday commissioned a study by top economists to estimate the extent of illegal wealth concealed abroad.
The new Directorate of Criminal Investigation will be headed by a director general or a chief commissioner rank officer. It will function out of eight cities considered to be high wealth generators Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Lucknow and will deal with criminal matters punishable under any direct tax law.
According to sources, Reacting to Baba’s comments, Arvind Kejriwal, one of the members of the joint committee on drafting the Lokpal Bill, said they would try to convince him about inclusion of the Prime Minister in the Lokpal ambit. Kejriwal said if the Prime Minister was kept out of the Lokpal, then there could be ten departments under him which would straight away come out of the anti-corruption. Then other ministers can also ask the bribe-givers to pass on all the bribes to the Prime Minister who enjoys immunity. “If the Prime Minister becomes corrupt then nothing can be done about it,” he said.
Yoga guru Baba Ramdev too has covenant to get out of corruption, by fast-unto-death, to force the Central Government to make efforts to bring back the black money hidden away in secret Swiss Banks and in other tax-havens around the world. Sources said that the government plans to both write and also send a Minister to Baba Ramdev to explain the measures already taken by it in the black money issue and to make him give up his fast-unto-death plan.
