As a part of this Warren Buffett has been scheduled to land in Bangalore, India on March 22, 2011 (Tuesday) afternoon, who was the world’s third richest person is expected to begin his maiden India visit with a day-long stopover at a small company in Bommasandra, an industrial township on the city outskirts.
Warren Edward Buffett is an American investor, industrialist and philanthropist. Warren Buffett is widely regarded as one of the most successful investors in the world. Often called the “legendary investor, Warren Buffett”, he is the primary shareholder, chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway. Warren Buffett was ranked as the world’s wealthiest person in 2008 and is the third wealthiest person in the world as of 2011.
Buffett will visit Delhi, where he and Gates will meet rich Indians and philanthropists to promote the culture of giving. Gates, whose involvement with charity has brought him down to number two on the world’s billionaires’ list, said India has an excellent chance of being poliofree very soon.
India’s success in reducing polio cases by 95% – from 741 in 2009 to only 42 last year – is an example of its commitment to improve the lives of the poorest, the Gates Foundation said on Monday.
In Bangalore, Buffett is slated to address a press conference on Tuesday evening, which will be followed by a private dinner hosted by TagueTec India, the maker of carbide tools in which Berkshire holds a stake. On Wednesday (March 23, 2011), he is scheduled will visit TaeguTec’s factory near Bangalore’s Electronic City.
On Thursday, Gates will join the ministers of health, human resources and development , and science to mark World Tuberculosis Day. Gates and Buffett plan to persuade Indian billionaires to join “The Giving Pledge” , a campaign launched by the two in June.
Gates and Buffet made headlines last year when they said they would seek to get fellow billionaires to commit half of their wealth to good causes as part of the “Giving Pledge” . So far, 59 rich Americans have taken the pledge. In developing countries like India, which has 55 billionaires, the wealthy are reluctant to part with their money.
Buffett is called the “Oracle of Omaha” or the “Sage of Omaha”[10] and is noted for his adherence to the value investing philosophy and for his personal frugality despite his immense wealth. Buffett is also a notable philanthropist, having pledged to give away 99 percent of his fortune to philanthropic causes, primarily via the Gates Foundation. He also serves as a member of the board of trustees at Grinnell College.
Warren Buffet will also meet people in Delhi who have bought insurance policies through his Indian venture. Earlier this month, Berkshire Hathaway had said it was entering the Indian non-life insurance sector as a corporate agent to sell products of Bajaj Allianz General. At the end of the week, the Bill Gates will join Warren Buffett for a discussion on philanthropy with business leaders and philanthropists.
