Sudha Chandran : Sudha Chandran dancer, Indian film and Television Actress

born in 1964 and who has been lost her one leg in an accident in May 1981 at the age os 16 years. is an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer, Indian film and Television Actress. Now Zee TV is coming up with another love story ‘Sanjog Se Bani Sangini’ which is scheduled to start from August 16, 2010 with two actresses and in important roles. The love story set in scenic Hardwar and at the Pataudi Palace in Delhi.

Indian televisions popular Iqbal Khan is coming back to the small screen after a gap of two years through this show, which will have ‘Dance India Dance’ finalist Binny Sharma in the female lead. Iqbal was last seen in Zee TV’s soap ‘Waaris’. Speaking about their roles in Sanjog Se Bani Sangini, Aruna Irani is playing the charcter of mother of Rudra (Iqbal Khan). who can get her things done at any cost while Sudha Chandran is playing the role of grandmother of Gauri (Binny Sharma) who is an orchestra singer from past where people did not accept woman in such profession. She is a very lively woman and has a dominating personality. She is much ahead of her time and does not wait for the approval of society to do what she wants”.

About Sudha Chandran:

She was born in 1964. She did her B.A from Mithibai College, Mumbai and subsequently an M.A in Economics. While travelling from there to the South during pilgrimage via “vallakkottai Murugan Temple in Tamil Nadu”, she met with an accident, because of which she had to have her right leg amputated. She has said that this period was the toughest time of her life. She subsequently overcame her disability with the help of a prosthetic ‘Jaipur foot’, becoming one of the most highly acclaimed dancers of the Indian subcontinent. Her decision to dance again after a gap of two years was met by thunderous applause. She received invitations from all over the world for performances. She was honoured with various awards after she performed as far away from home as Europe, Canada and the Middle East. Soon after she catapulted to fame and recognition by venturing into the world of films and television.

The 1984 Telugu film Mayuri in which she plays herself was inspired by her story. The 1986 film Nache Mayuri was a Hindi remake of the Telugu original, in which the cast was changed except for Sudha to suit the North Indian sensibilities. She was awarded the 1986 Special Jury Award at the National Film Awards for her performance in the film Mayuri. She is perhaps best known for her role in the 1994 film Anjaam which also stars Madhuri Dixit and Shahrukh Khan.

In the Ekta Kapoor produced serial, Kaahin Kissii Roz, she portrayed the character called “Ramola Sikand” which became an instant hit. She is considered to be one of the more flamboyant stars on Indian television, known for her avant garde sarees, chunk jewellery and designer bindis.

Since then she has acted in several other TV serials such as K Street Pali hill in which she played the character of Gayatri Kaul.The Drama was produced by Ekta Kapoor for star plus. She has also portrayed the role of a rich bratty man’s mother in a drama called Kuch Iss Tara which telcasts on Sony TV and was also produced by Ekta Kapoor. Recently, she has participated in a Dance reality show, ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’, on Sony TV. She has also acted in a Tamil serial broadcasted in Sun TV, titled ‘Kalasam’ for the role of the antagonist Chandramathi and had Ramya Krishnan in the lead role. She is now into the role of ‘Madurai’ Thilakavathy in Sun TV’s Tamil serial ‘Arasi’ which has Radhika Sarathkumar in lead role. She plays a lawyer in that serial. and she is called as symbol of “will power”
