Rupee Symbol of India, Indian Rupee Symbol going to change by Central government of India and RBI

or going to change by and RBI as the government a year back has been announced contest to design the symbol and the winning entry whose design of or Indian Rupee Symbol selected will get Rs 2,50,000. The Union Cabinet will today decide on the symbol for Indian Rupee, a privilege (unique identity) available only to major currencies like dollar, euro, pound, sterling and yen.

Central government of India, (RBI) and Indian finance ministry has short-listed some new Indian rupee symbol from the contest across the globe. The five shortlisted designs are unique and contemporary. Some of them reflect the Devanagari script ‘R’ crossed with lines. The selected designs are simple, easy to write and are designed to appeal to the Indian and international community.

The proposal for the new Indian rupee symbol contest which was announced by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in 2009 in Indian budget session in parliament also said to be encouraged by the growing influence of the Indian economy in the global arena.

Before one year Indian Government announced contest to design the new rupee symbol which winning entry gets prize money of Rs 2,50,000 and the most important criterion for the new rupee symbol selections were:-

1. The symbol should be applicable to standard keyboard.

2. The symbol has to be in the Indian National Language Script or a visual representation.

3. The symbol should represent the historical & cultural ethos of the country as widely accepted across the country.

Symbol number 3 is my choice

1. It looks good on a keyboard.
2. looks like it originates from the hindi akshar ‘ra’
3. even kidswillbe able to write it

A suggestion is to make it simpler..more like an R with a short sleepng line..instead of double lines..

symbol 3rd is best., other symbols also good..

my suggestion is in 3rd symbol v can add our national flag, alrdy flag symbol is reflecting in dat symbol, so its gud to keep our RUPEE symbol…

RTI Activist exposed violation of guidelines and biased selection process in “Indian Rupee Symbol” design competition.

According to RTI Documents : http://www.saveindianrupeesymbol.org

1. Non-eligible candidate was shortlisted in top five finalists.
2. One finalist was in contact with Finance Ministry and RBI prior to competition.
3. Design concept or brief was not put in front of jury along with Indian Rupee symbol design.
4. No marks or grades were allotted to selected (2644) candidates design entries, in the process of shortlisting top five finalist design entries.
5. Jury had spends less than 20 seconds on each design entries to analyze it .
6. Three jury member were absent in two days long meeting dated 29th Sept. and 30th Sept. 2009.
7. One jury member from Ministry of Culture was absent on the day of final presentation.
8. All seven jury member had never meet in this whole selection process in any given time.
9. No records are available with Finance Ministry which could indicated, how many total design entries Finance Ministry had received ?

symbol 3rd is best & this my choice while symbol 2nd also good.

1.It looks like an international currency.
2. It looks like it originates from the hindi akshar ‘ra’
3. It looks good on a keyboard.
4. even kids will be able to write it

i think Symbol no 2 is very much suitable becoz…
1. it has no cross which is sign of “WRONG”.
2. it also contain farming tool use for crop cutting
3. it also shows small gap/space that is indicating different factors cobine to form strong tool
