The World Classical Tamil Conference 2010, will be held in Coimbatore (Kovai) tomorrow, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday launched the website (www.ulakathamizhchemmozhi.org) for the World Classical Tamil Conference 2010 to be held in Coimbatore (Kovai) in June 2010. The conference will remain continue from June 23, 2010 to June 27, 2010. Coimbatore was already selected and announced as the next venue for Tamil Conference last year on 9th November, 2009. Tamil Internet Conference will also take place along with Tamil Conference. Tamil Nadu CM is the chairman of this conference. The conference aims in promoting the rich heritage of Tamil language. Not all agree, however, with the academic and intellectual rigor of the event. The conference’s theme song (Tamil Semmozhi Manadu song) was composed by A. R. Rahman for the 2010 conference at the request of M. Karunanidhi, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. A host of Indian playback singers took part in the song.

Each conference is attended by thousands of Tamil diplomats around the world. Conferences are hosted in various cities in India, as well as world cities with a significant Tamil population.

Designed in Tamil and English, the website has different sections pertaining to the theme of the conference, announcements made on the meet, the significance of the host city (Coimbatore) and the historical background of the declaration of Tamil as a classical language.

The expenses of the conference would be monitored by the Chief Secretary, Finance Secretary, Special Officer and the District Collector. The government would meet whatever requirements indicated by the officials.

K. Anbazhagan and Arcot N. Veeraswami, Ministers, Kanimozhi, Member of Parliament and K. Allaudin, Special Officer, were among those present.

The Chief Minister also released the 2010 calendar designed by the State Tourism department.

Lascaux Indologist Dr. Parpola Finland will be given the Kalaignar Karunanidhi Tamil Classic award for his unforgettable work for Indus Script. President Pratibha Patil will present him award which is developed by Central Institute of Classical Tamil.
