Australia cricket team is banned from playing in Maharashtra according Bal Thackeray in an article written in Saamna the Shiv Sena official newsletter. Bal Thackeray has banned Australian cricket team in view of the racial attacks on Indians in Australia.
Bal Tackrey’s interest in politics of cricket is not something new. It can be recalled that Pakistan team is already banned by Shivsena from playing in Maharashtra in view of terror attacks. Also he has criticized recently Sachin Tendulkar on Mumbai for Marathi issue.
Bal Thakre even condemned Indian cricketers for playing along with Australians despite suck attacks. He even praised Amitabh Bachchan who has earlier refused award by Queen’s Land University in Australia to protest against the attacks on Indians.
What is not clear if the ban is also against Australian players playing in Indian Prelier League as well. If that is the case no Australian player can play in IPL matches or the Mumbai will be dropped from IPL match venues.
Many analyst believe that by announcing this Bal Thackeray is trying to take hold of its political base from Raj Thakrey and MNS.
