Amar Singh resigns from Samajwadi Party posts – decides for Health over Mulayam Singh

(53) has resigned from posts after choosing health over . In a communication from Dubai he has cited health reasons as the cause of his rsignation and not the increased differences with party chief

Amar Singh has resigned as national general secretary, spokesman and member of the Samajwadi Party parliamentary board. “I have resigned from all the three posts with immediate effect and I have faxed my resignation to Mulayam Singh Yadav,” said Amar Singh.

According to Amar Singh there is no political motive or there are no differences with the Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav. He indicated that he is resigning “strictly as per the advice of my doctors, who have asked me to take complete rest as I have just undergone a major kidney transplant operation.”

Though the kidney transplant operation took place in Singapore three months why he has chosen now to resign is still debated.

Here are the recent events that led to this separation from Mulayam Singh

  • Byelections 2009: Amar Singh attacked Mulayam Singh and his family over the party’s humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha by election in Firozabad saying that SP lost because of over confidence of the SP chief and his family. It may be noted that Mulayam Yadav’s daughter-in-law Dimple was the SP candidate who lost to Congress nominee Raj Babbar, who was earlier with SP.
  • During earlier Lok Sabha elections Amar Singh relations with the Mulayam Singh had come under strain over Jaya Prada’s candidature in Rampur which was opposed to by Azam Khan, who later exited the party.
