Four MLAs of (MNS) were suspended by the Maharashtra assembly on Monday for four years for attacking Samajwadi Party member Abu Azmi for taking his legislator’s oath in Hindi. The legislators who are suspended for attack on Abu Azmi are:

  1. Shishir Shinde

  4. Ramesh Banjle

It may be recalled that there was an open letter by MNS chief Raj Thackeray this morning urging all 288 legislators to take their oath in Marathi.

Abu Azmi had declared that he would take the oath in the national language Hindi. When his turn came and as Azmi got up to take the oath in Hindi and just uttered the first few words, MNS members (all first-timers) got up from their seats and shouted slogans and rushed towards Azmi. As Abu Azmi continued to take the oath in Hindi, MNS’s Ramesh Banjle uprooted the microphone and threw it away. While the other MNS members surrounded him and pushed and punched him and one member Ram Kadam was seen on live television slapping and hitting him on the chest and shoulders.
