Prabhash Joshi a noted media personality, writer and political analyst died on Nov 5th 2009 due to heart attack. Prabhash Joshi was 72. Prabhash Joshi was admitted to a private hospital in New Delhi after he complained of chest pain at 11.30 pm where doctors declared him dead last night, family sources said.
He is survived by wife Usha Joshi, two sons Sandeep and Sopan, daughter Sonal and mother Leela Bai.
Prabhash Joshi (July 15, 1936 – November 5, 2009) began his career with Nayi Duniya, was the founder editor of leading Hindi daily “Jansatta” in 1983. After retiring from the newspaper in 1995, he continued as the chief editorial advisor. Originally from Indore, Joshi, a veteran writer and a Gandhian, changed the definition of Hindi journalism with the publication of ‘Jansatta’. Joshi also worked with the Indian Express as the resident editor at Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Delhi.
He was also famous for his writings on cricket. Prabhash Joshi was a popular television commentator and mainly invited for his views and comments on national politics during the Lok Sabha (lower house of the Parliament of India) or Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly of an Indian state) elections. Prabhash Joshi had been writing a Sunday column for Jansatta entitled “Kagad-Kare” over the last many years. Recently he had started writing a weekly column entitled “Aughat-Ghat” for Tehelka Hindi.

He was a great journalist and powerful orator. He always pressed for responsible media, particularly after the recent Lok Sabha elections when many news papers were found to be involved in curruption charges.
He would always be remembered for improvinng the quality of journalism in India, particularly Hindi journalism
