Lovers in UP India forced to become Brother and Sister

In another incident of atrocity against love birds a couple in UP state of India has been forced to become Brother and Sister by a local Panchayat (People’s court at village). It seems that Pintoo Sharma (30) & his lover (28) were sitting in a garden when villagers caught them and brought them to Panchayat of Kukra village in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh.

Panchayat has asked them to slap each other for their so called illegitimate’ love affair. They refused this so villagers have tarted beating them with shoes on their faces. Later Sharma was forced to touch the woman’s feet as a sign of acknowledging her as his elder sister, while the woman was made to tie a rakhi on his hand. Panchayat has also thrown them out of the village.

Police have initiated an enquiry but as usual they never take any strong action in such cases due to public outcry and political pressures.
