Miraj dangal – Miraj Riots – Gopinath Munde stopped to visit Sangli

Miraj dangal or Miraj Riots – Gopinath Munde was stopped to visit Sangli riots site (where curfew was clamped after the trouble began) at Mumbai Airport. Bharatiya Janata Party leader Gopinath Munde was stopped from boarding the Sangli bound plane and was interrogated at the airport.

Officials said he was detained as his address could aggravate the tense situation in the district. Deputy Commissioner of Police Brijesh Singh said Munde has been prevented from going to Miraj in wake of the communal clashes there and his boarding pass has been seized.

Gopinat Munde was supposed to address a meeting in connection with a recent riot or dangal at Miraj in the Sangli district.

The Miraj dangal / Miraj riot had started on Anant Chaturdashi (September 3). Some pro Hindutva organisations tried to raise an arch on the Ganesh idol immersion procession route, depicting murder of Mughal warrior Afzulkhan by king Shivaji as recorded in the Maratha history. This resulted in tension between two communities and in an earlier post we have shown the real riot video (check the link below). Due to the riots the Ganesh Visarjan could not be done on the last day Anant Chaturdashi and according to Hindu norms now it can not be done.
