Harley Davidson India will be the fully owned unit of Harley Davidson Inc USA which will start selling Harley Davidson Bikes in India from tomorrow. The India foray of Harley Davidson is to seek growth in emerging markets to offset a slump in domestic demand. Harley’s second quarter U.S. sales dropped 35 percent in the rising unemployment and a recession.
Harley Davidson India will import the motorcycles, accessories and riding gear for sale in India. Harley Davidson India Unit is set up in Gurgaon, near New Delhi.
Harley Davidson India will initially set up dealerships in cities including Mumbai and New Delhi as it aims to tap demand from the affluent people. The target models are Fat Boy and Cross Bones cruisers, which can cost more than $40,000 in the U.S. Anoop Prakash is appointed as managing director of the India unit. Keith Wandell is the president and chief executive officer of Harley Davidson Inc USA.

Interesting !! Starting price looks to be around $15000. I find the ‘Sportster’ model to be starting around $7000.
