Ananda Vikatan is part of the Vikatan group which is also publishing Junior Vikatan (ஜூனியர் விகடன்), Chutti Vikatan (சுட்டி விகடன்), Aval Vikatan (அவள் விகடன்), Naanayam Vikatan (நாணயம் விகடன்), Sakthi Vikatan (சக்தி விகடன்), Motor Vikatan (மோட்டார் விகடன்) and Pasumai Vikatan (பசுமை விகடன).
The news magazine was in news recently as the Union Minister A. Raja and his wife, M.A. Parameswari, filed a case in court against them for publishing “defamatory news items and photographs” of them and their minor daughter in the bi-weekly magazine causing damage to their reputation.

Vikatan was started by S.S.Vasan in 1928 when he purchased a humour magazine that was not doing well for Rs. 200. The first issue Working hard, he built it up into a weekly and soon the weekly scaled to the top and the best selling Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan is still running successfully after nearly eighty years.
Vikatan has now evolved as Vikatan group and became an icon in the Tamil Nadu magazine industry.
