Gammon India denies negligience in Delhi metro accident – share drops by 19 percent

delhi-metro-bridge-collapseGammon India denied  the charges of negligience in accident where  bridge collapse happened. Gammon India is the company which is carrying out the construction work at the site. It may be recalled that six people were killed as a section of a elevated viaduct collapsed.

A section of the elevated rail track that Gammon India was constructing to connect the Central Secretariat with Badarpur in the far south collapsed at Zamrudpur on Sunday, killing six people and injuring 15. Again today (Monday) five other people were injured at the same site as three cranes and a launching girder toppled over.

Gammon India denied negligence on its part and said all safety measures had been taken. The said that they followed highest safety measures and have safety engineers. Gammon surprisingly related safety to ISO and said that they are an ISO certified company and prima facie I don’t find any mistake on our part. The statements were made by Umesh Gupta, vice-president of Gammon India.

Meanwhile Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy said that Government will not spare any one, including Gammon India, if found guilty. We are yet to receive the inquiry committee report. Accountability will be fixed. The – Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is a joint venture of the central and Delhi governments.

Gammon India Ltd share dropped

Gammon India Ltd. share was the second-worst performer on the BSE 500 Index today and dropped as much as 19 percent. Gammon fell 16.50 rupees, or 10 percent, to 145.05 rupees in Mumbai trading as of 11:24 a.m. local time.
