Story of Short kut The Con is On
Raju (Arshad Warsi) believes that life mein sab shortcut mein hona chahiye and wants to become a superstar without any of the hard work and struggle. So with the typeof talent is he, that when he does land a role, he is shown the door after 200 retakes for a single shot. When a friend advices him to join the junior artist fraternity, Raju reveals his dream of making five crore per movie some day, but not before asking the poor wellwisher a five hundred rupee loan. Homeless and jobless, he begs friend Shekhar (Akshaye Khanna) to let him live in his chawl room. Shekhar who was happy after completing the climax to his film script agrees only to regret later.
Now the crook Raju steals Shekhar’s script and trades it for a leading role in a movie. Shattered, Shekhar finds strength in his superstar girlfriend Mansi (Amrita Rao) and they get married. Mansi announces to the world that she’s quitting films but soon with no money, she tells Shekhar that she’d like working again to pitch in the household expenses. This enrages Shekhar who feels belittled by this suggestion. The film then trails the lives of the three characters Raju, Sekhar and Mansi and how their paths inevitably intertwine.
Review of Short kut The Con is On
Short kut The Con is On’s first half is OK with some good humor. The second half is gets boring like a typical Bollywood saga. The climax is somewhat interesting but could have been better. Akshaye Khanna in better physique is fabulous. Amrita Rao’s new glamourous look is very good but due to her industry image from earlier movies you do not feel like Oomph! Arshad Warsi plays his character naturally (sorry Arshad).
The Anil Kapoor production “Shortkut – The Con is On” is the remake of the very famous Malayalam movie ‘Udayananu Tharam’ which stars superstar Mohanlal with Sreenivasan. The original version of this movie was too good with Mohanlal depicting the role of the struggling director whose story is stolen by Sreenivasan.
Writer Anees Bazmee and director Neeraj Vora (of Phir Hera Pheri fame) take a shortcut by remaking a Malayalam film Udayananu Thanam. If they would have tried building upon that rather than just copying – the product would have been better.
