Agni-II test firect successfully by Army – India’s nuclear capable surface-to-surface missile

agniiitestfired-II the nuclear capable surface-to-surface missile with a range of over 2,000 km was successfully tested today from a base in Orissa. The Agni was test-fired from the Wheeler’s Island near Dhamara in the district of Bhadrak, some 150 km from here at 10.06am.

The trial of Agni 2 was a user trial by Army and the aim was to give the Army confidence to fire the missile on its own.

Specifications of Agni II

  • 20 metres long
  • 16 tonnes in weight
  • 1,000 kg payload
  • Range 2000 Km at 1000 Kg
  • Range 3000 km (by reducing the pay load)
  • Fired from both rail and road mobile launchers
  • Warm up time 15 minutes (for the missile to be readied for firing)

The Agni II missile is a part of India’s Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme.
