The fear of layoff at Infosys is finally confirmed! Infosys Technologies the blue eyed company of Indian corporate community has finally shown the boot to 2,100 of its employees across the country.
Reportadly they indicated that they have done this after an annual performance appraisal exercise concluded mid-March. This is said by none other than Mohandas Pai, head of the company’s HR, that based on the performance, 2,100 employees had left (or asked to leave?) Infosys. The company had a total headcount of 1,03,078.
“The tolerance for non-performance has come down to zero,” Mohandas Pai, HR Head Infosys
It may be recalled and reported on in IndiaSummary.com that about 3 months ago Infosys had said it has put close to 5000 employees on scanner or performance watch.
What needs to be seen is that taking clue from the leader – whether other IT companies in India will follow the suite?

My request to big IT companies, that please admit that in recession time, you have to get rid of some employees.
Why you r firing employee in the name of “non-performance”? If IT contracts shrinks to zero( god forbid) , what you’ll say??
I read one article that a chance of getting an offer from Infosys is less that of getting admission from Harvard!!! Then I think Mr Mohandas Das Pai has to answer how come his team has offered so many non-performers. Its time to do some soul searching.
Learn from Big auto companies in US. They are laying off people becos they have to…..
Please don’t rub wounds to outplaced employees.

@Sengupta
US Auto Companies fires non-performers even when Industry is doing well? Be happy that Indian companies are not doing that.
Second, US Auto companies fire 10-20% of workforce. Indian companies fire 2% of non-performers. US Auto companies are in vertical business, IT is a horizontal business where you can pick low performers from whole pool.
Don’t comment just for sake of it. All that comparing Infosys with Harward are some crazy rumors. Anyone can get into Infy after mugging the standard puzzles.

Non performers ? Good joke. It looks like a word “Loyalty” in political. The politicians are now in IT sector also. I mean to say, In each company top level people are ready to suck and throw out the bottom line real workers. It also a kind of cheap business nowadays. Every one is ready to push-out any one for their own survival in this industry nowadays. So bad culture. God only has to save the real hard work people.

However, the word “non-performer” looks like the word “Shit”. Because, both the words are very common in IT industry. There is no doubt about it. Also, the top officials are always talks about “non-performers”. Its nothing but they are so keen about preparing and counting the no’s “Shit”. Am i right or not? Oh shit…

All this is politics yaar. This is not performance. truth is projects are diminishing,company is bleeding.And project managers have seized this opportunity to play havoc on the lives of very dedicated people but have got on their wrong side. My friend had client apprecition,worked very hard but was betrayed by his pm. The higher management and HR behaved like bullies even though they knew it was the pm’s wickedness and not his perfor,ance. Infosys has got some b and C grade HR people who don’t bother to take action against managers and allows honest emoployees to be blamed and bearthe consequences.So much fr their values. I have never seen such cheap and bullying management.It is like living in a communist regime. The company is not going to last very long from the way its operating. All its shady activities should be exposed and the HR and management should be oput behind bars for torturing poor employees
