Infosys is asking staff to take One year NGO stint (Sabatical) at half pay

Nandan Nilekani co-founder of India’s leading IT and Software firm has indicated something which is fearful if that is the state of current economic situation.

Many of the emloyees of the software firm are left without much work to do. So they are aksing employees to work with a non-profit organisation for a year. During this period they will get paid half their salary by the Infosys. Employees are also asked to contribute towards Open Source Projects.

Nandan Nilekani said that Infosys is hiring “Very selectively” due to gloomy economic scenario. Though they will honour the offers given in Campus. Infosys has also started hiring new batches only in the last or 8th semester.

It may be noted that 88 percent of Infosys’ revenues come from the US and Europe and the economic crisis has impacted everyone. A considerable fall is expected in the growth rate.

Just imagine – if other companies start following the trend – the salaries in IT industry will fall? This will impact overall economy and IT professionals are one of the prime movers of the economic growth.
