Shashi Tharoor – former UN diplomat may be running for a Congress ticket from Thiruvananthapuram Kerala. There are reports that his name figures among the names shortlisted by the party leadership.
It can be recalled that Shashi Tharoor left his post at the United Nations and was a contender for the secretary general’s job as an Indian-sponsored candidate, which finally went to Ban Ki Moon of South Korea. After this he came back to to the country and ever since he has been eager to get into the rough and tumble of politics, with his name doing the rounds as a Congress hopeful from Kerala for sometime.
Congress is expecting gains from Kerala this year due to unsaid divisions between communist bloc – CPI and CPM.

Shashi Tharoor (born 9 March 1956 in London) is an Indian diplomat and writer who has been known mostly for his having worked as an Indian diplomat at the United Nations. In 2006, he was the official candidate of India for the office of United Nations Secretary-General, and came second out of seven official candidates in the race. Tharoor served as the UN Under-Secretary General for Communications and Public Information between June 2002 and February 2007, during the term of Secretary-General Kofi Annan. He is an author, journalist, and fellow of the USC Center on Public Diplomacy. Tharoor is an Indian national, from the state of Kerala.
