Voter’s ID Card not mandatory for casting vote in Elections – other IDs acceptable

If you are worrying that you have not recieved your Voter’s ID card yet – there is no need to. Carrying identity card granted by the commission (EC) will not be mandatory in the coming Lok Sabha polls, since the EC is yet to allot voter I-cards to the entire electorate.

The Election commission had directed that a voter with one of the following photo I-card will also be allowed to enter the polling booth:

  • Voters ID card
  • Passport
  • Driving licence
  • Passbook issued by a nationalised bank
  • Ration card
  • Railway pass
  • PAN card
  • An identity card issued by an employer

However the person should be registerd in the Voter’s List.
