Technically Gulzar is also nominated being the lyricist of song “Jai Ho”. The other song “O Saya” is by Maya Arulpragasam (popularly known as MIA) a British songwriter.
Slumdog Millionaire, bagged 10 nominations in all including Best Motion Picture category, Best Director — Danny Boyle and Best Adapted Screenplay — Simon Beaufoy.
“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, a drama in which Brad Pitt plays a man who ages backwards, led the field of Oscar contenders with 13 nominations. Batman sequel “The Dark Knight” and the gay-rights saga “Milk” each got eight nominations.
Surprisingly much expected “Taare Zameen Par” of Aamir Khan could not get the nomination in foreign film category.
