  • One nomination for Achievement in music written for motion pictures (Original score)
  • Two nominations for Achievement in music written for motion pictures (Original song) for his songs “Jai Ho” from “Slumdog Millionaire” (Fox Searchlight), Music by A.R. Rahman, Lyric by and “O Saya” from “Slumdog Millionaire” (Fox Searchlight), Music and Lyric by A.R. Rahman and

Technically Gulzar is also nominated being the lyricist of song “Jai Ho”. The other song “O Saya” is by Maya Arulpragasam (popularly known as ) a British songwriter.

Slumdog Millionaire, bagged 10 nominations in all including Best Motion Picture category, Best Director — Danny Boyle and Best Adapted Screenplay — Simon Beaufoy.

“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, a drama in which Brad Pitt plays a man who ages backwards, led the field of Oscar contenders with 13 nominations. Batman sequel “The Dark Knight” and the gay-rights saga “Milk” each got eight nominations.

Surprisingly much expected “Taare Zameen Par” of Aamir Khan could not get the nomination in foreign film category.
