Sania Mirza survived a late onslaught from world number 61 Marta Domachowska in her 6-1, 6-4 win in the first round of the ladies singles of the Australian Open on Monday. Sania is making her return to singles competition on the WTA Tour, after being forced on the sidelines for four month with a wrist injury.
Sania suffered with injuries after a breakthrough 2005 when she reached the US Open fourth round. Sania had a bad 2008 – with surgery on her right wrist in April ruining her season. She made brief comebacks before bowing out of the Beijing Olympics in tears. But she is now hitting the ball harder than ever and is looking hungry for success.
