Nearly two months after threatening to file a defamation case against former Karnataka chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy for his alleged remarks over awarding of a housing project contract in the city to a private group, the Karnataka government filed a civil and criminal defamation suit against the state JD-S president and son of former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda.
A special public prosecutor appointed by the state filed the petition in the principal civil and sessions court alleging the former Karnataka chief minister had made statements “against (chief minister) B.S. Yeddyurappa which are defamatory in nature and the same are made with malice and spite to tarnish the image of the Chief Minister in the eyes of the general public.”
Principal Civil and Sessions Court Judge H.S. Kempanna has adjourned the hearing in the case to December 30 when the results for the eight assembly bypolls will be announced.
